I was watching a baseball game last night and this ad for the fast food chain, Jack in the Box, came on. I guess I shouldn't be, but I was a little surprised to see a 70s porn-themed ad with sexual innuendo (and not just any sex, but hot tub orgy group sex or partner swapping) for a family hamburger joint. So, if you're into group sex, you'll enjoy their sirloin sandwich? Or, if you are hip enough to "get the joke" then you are hip enough for Jack? Yes, porn and deviant sex are mainstream now (in case you hadn't noticed).

Oh, I've noticed. I'm just curious as to what will happen when our senses have been completely deadened to sex. The line keeps getting pushed, and, because of the nature of the beast, it will continue to do so. At least it will until it's not useful to sell products anymore. But I wonder what humanity will be like at that point. I guess there will probably be a drug to help us out with that problem by then.

I think we are seeing that already in the younger generation. (good grief, I've passed over to the old fogey set) It seems that that younger folk are becoming deadened to sex. Nothing shocks. All is allowed. And one of two things is happening. Either they reject it all, listening to that law written on their hearts from the beginning of time, turn back to God rejecting the sex as buffet mentality, and even embracing chasity again as the young women over at "Dawn Patrol". Or they reject marriage and family completely by aborting their children, their marriage (if they ever get there) and their posterity though contraception or the sterility of same sex relationships.

I'm part of the "younger generation" at 20 years old, and I usually think Jack-in-the-Box has the best fast food commercials, nevermind whether their food is worth it or not; they're just creative, clever and often funny. But I remember seeing this commercial and rolling my eyes in a mix of disgust and annoyance.
I have become so tired of sex as marketing. I want to be able to go out with a girl friend (or, yes, even girlfriend) and have it be about us, our lives, school, work, the social scene, just enjoying each other's company...and not have it be about sex! There is this assumption because of this culture that a girl you spend time with must be a romantic interest, and all that marketing does is help push us closer and closer to severing "romance" from "physical attraction". I know I'm rambling now, but that commercial says so much about my generation. And it's sad.
